Paleo Bundle

cover3Is there a magic bullet for many of our modern diseases? Can we really undo the years of abuse and eliminate the frustration that masquerades as fad dieting and finally lose all those unwanted pounds? Can we turn back the hands of time and regain our lost vigour, energy and youthfulness? The answer might be surprisingly simple.

As a professional nutritionist and life-style specialist, I’ve been privileged to witness extraordinary changes in people’s bodies and in the quality of their lives as a direct result of improving their food intake. That’s right. One of the fastest and most effective ways to burn off all those stubborn, excess pounds and restore natural levels of vibrant and vigorous health is to eliminate all the harmful foods that make up the typical modern diet and start to eat the way our bodies really love to be fuelled. It’s called smart nutrition and it’s one of the most important developments to emerge from the amazing revolution in medical research of the past three decades.

The basis for the smart nutrition movement is the important recognition that our bodies haven’t changed very much in the past few hundred thousand years. The way our distant ancestors survived and evolved as highly-efficient hunter-gatherers can still be clearly observed in our anatomy and in our digestive systems right up to the present day. The smart nutrition movement has identified the advantages of eating more naturally and has led to the super-efficient Paleo Diet that encourages healthier eating and an avoidance of processed foods. More importantly, the Paleo Diet identifies the problems associated with consuming grains. As a species, humans have been cultivating and consuming large quantities of grains for the last ten thousand years or so and, putting it simply, we haven’t adapted successfully to the agricultural revolution. Grains can produce a wide variety of inflammatory effects, reactions that have been linked to a wide variety of diseases and illnesses that can be largely avoided with a change in diet. This might prove to be some of the most important medical news of the century.

The other foodstuff that is causing huge problems for our health is sugar. Whether it’s naturally occurring or processed, the research points very clearly to the dangers of having sugar in our diet. And, as you may know, sugar is added to most of the food we consume every day in our highly-processed, western diet.

So the obvious answer is to reduce grain consumption and eliminate sugar from our daily diet. We are free to consume moderate amounts of lean, organic protein, all the leafy green vegetables we want and, perhaps most intriguing of all, a lot more fat. Does that surprise you? Despite the modern emphasis on fat-free or low-fat food and the unavoidable truth that people are just getting fatter and fatter, we now know that we really need a lot more fat in our diets in order to stimulate our bodies to burn our stored reserves of fat.

With this ground-breaking knowledge to guide us, we can look forward to creating new levels of health and fitness just by modifying the quality of the food we eat. Yes, we normally benefit from moderate exercise too and I’m always keen to encourage people to move their bodies every day. But the influence of our food choices on our health even at a cellular level, cannot be over-estimated. We’re slowly waking up to the realisation that we really are what we eat and now the key to robust health and fitness and vigorous longevity can be found on the end of our forks. Eat well!

Paleo for Ageless Men

cover (1)The challenge for all men to stay fit and healthy and enjoy all the benefits of being in great shape often leave us wondering how best to proceed. Great health and vitality are the products of taking the best possible care of our bodies and this becomes increasingly important as we get older. it isn’t simply a question of our calendar age either. As you may know, men’s bodies do not have to reflect all the years we’ve spent on this earth. In biological terms, our bodies can be much younger than the age that’s based on our date of birth. Of course, with enough neglect and abuse, a man’s body can be a lot older than his calendar age too! But once we realise how much control we can exercise on the ageing process, we can take steps to correct the damage we’ve inflicted on our bodies through poor nutrition, lack of exercise, too much stress, smoking, drinking and a host of other equally damaging pastimes! Once we make a commitment to respect the miracles of our own bodies, we can cut out smoking, cut down on alcohol and then take a serious and mature approach to our nutritional needs.

Nutrition is one of the most important areas that we can apply to men’s health and wellbeing needs because the results can transform our body’s reactions to the ageing process in a remarkably short time. Once we apply the deeply effective Paleo approach and cleanse our bodies of decades of toxins, things rapidly begin to change for the better. For example, even a man’s skin becomes clearer as the body repairs the damage of time. Oxidative stress can be neutralised. Our intestinal flora can be re-balanced and restored to optimal functioning. We can finally burn off that unsightly belly fat and lose the love handles forever. Our muscles become stronger and more toned. Men can take a look in the mirror once in a while and nod with approval at the obvious changes taking place in their bodies. We discover that we have a lot more energy. That vigour and vitality that we used to have in our youth suddenly re-emerges as our bodies start to burn fuel more efficiently. This in turn can boost our mental acuity and increase our cognitive awareness. We get younger! You really have to experience it for yourself to believe it.

One of the key areas that amply demonstrates our ability to take control of our health and get into much better shape has got to be our weight. We are certainly living in an era where obesity has become an epidemic, a global threat to health that is closely associated with far too many completely avoidable health problems. Many men undoubtedly struggle with their weight and the problem seems to become more difficult to solve as we get older. But with a simple change in nutrition, a switch to healthier, more natural food choices and the body will respond by transforming itself from a flabby, fat-storing entity to a fat-burning machine that will shred all the unwanted fat and reveal the leaner, trimmer version of you that you’ve dreamed of for years. That’s why the Paleo Diet represents such an important step forward for men of all ages. Sure, everything will work better and faster when you adopt the principles whilst you’re still young but these methods also work when we get older too. So it’s really never too late to experience the wonder of renewed vigour and youthfulness. it’s never too late to turn back the hands of time. It’s never too late to treat your body with the love, respect, care and attention that it truly deserves. Because it will happily pay you back with interest in so many ways for the rest of your life. And you will understand what it means to become the ageless man.

It’s never too late to experience the benefits of smart nutrition. Download here your very own copy of PALEO for Ageless Men with bonus recipes.

Improve Your Immune System

10feb 61PGBjqEzHL._SX398_BO1,204,203,200_Have you thought about how much pressure your body is under these days? When you consider the additives in our food, the chemicals in our drinking water, the pollution in the air we breathe – the list can seem pretty daunting. When we add the pressures of daily living, the emotional and mental stresses that exhaust and fatigue us, we can begin to understand how easily the body can exhibit worrying signs of stress and distress.

One of the more disturbing aspects of modern living is the widespread increase in adrenal stress that is affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. Adrenal stress was more commonly associated with people in middle age but now it’s just as likely to affect people in their teens and early twenties. We have to accept the fact that we are living in highly-stressed times and that things are not getting better. So why is this a problem for our health and wellbeing?

The affects of environmental pollution, food additives, inappropriate food choices and emotional stress can compromise the immune system and leave the body vulnerable to disease, infection, allergies and imbalances in the hormonal and metabolic systems. The result is a reduction in the quality of life, an increase in the possibility of serious disease, an impairment of the mental faculties and a shorter lifespan. I know. It doesn’t make for very pleasant or uplifting reading but our purpose is to flag the potential problems so that you are fully prepared to take the right steps to neutralise them. And the great news is that there’s plenty you can do to improve the situation before the imbalances ever get a chance to challenge your health. And some of the answers are probably growing unnoticed in your garden.

The long and noble traditions of using herbs and natural treatments to assist with health and wellbeing issues has seen a recent and welcome revival as more and more people express their concern about the effects of relying too much on anti-biotics and prescription medication. Herbalists and naturopaths favour prevention more than cure and this holistic approach to fostering better health can go a long way in countering the effects of all forms of stress. If you suffer from insomnia, there are natural herbal supplements you can take that will encourage you to sleep better and enjoy a restful night’s sleep. That’s one simple remedy that can make a substantial difference to the quality of your life and reduce the stresses and pressure that often interfere with the normal working of your immune system.

Learning to relax and unlock the physical tension that often reflects the stresses and frustrations of work and family life can revolutionise your ability to handle stress effectively. This is an entirely natural process that enhances both physical and mental function. It’s also one of the keys to maintaining a healthy and robust immune system.
Nutrition needs to be considered too. Diet will always play an important role in affecting health and we need to eliminate products and substances that may be harmful to our health. This is just common sense but, if we ignore the dietary advice and continue to consume products that provoke intolerances or allergies, we know we will pay the price at some point. It’s so easy to avoid these issues by maintaining a diet of fresh and natural produce, concentrating on food types that support our health and wellbeing and avoiding anything that could cause a problem, either now or in the future.

We may not be able to change the world and make it a less stressful place but we can do so many things to control the way we respond to the daily challenges around us. We can learn to use the most natural ways possible to boost our health and fully appreciate the methods that lend themselves to a calmer, more productive and more enjoyable way of living. It’s your life. Make it the best. You deserve it!

PKE Diet Revolution

image5Trying to lose weight? Taming those extra pounds and getting your body into a healthier, leaner condition can be very frustrating – especially if you don’t know what your body really needs. But many of the answers to our health and weight loss issues can be traced to our evolution as a species and our adaptation to some very challenging conditions on the wild and ancient plains of Africa.

For hundreds of thousands of years, our distant ancestors did not have access to cultivated grains. For most of our existence as a species, we were hunter-gatherers and we simply did not consume grains. It was only during the development of agriculture around twelve thousand years ago that we began the long road to controlling and managing our food supplies, creating surpluses and laying the foundations of the earliest civilisations. The problem is that we haven’t fully adapted to a grain-rich diet and the new glutens that are present in the high-yield wheat that was developed since the 1970s produce inflammatory reactions that have been linked to a range of serious health conditions. The explosion in obesity rates is just one highly visible part of the problem.

The PKE Diet Revolution takes a scientifically researched approach to these issues, drawing on the conclusions from the highly respected field of Functional Medicine, and starts by removing gluten from the diet. It’s surprising how many people around the world suffer from mild allergic reactions to gluten but it’s equally encouraging to see the dramatic improvements in health and weight control as soon as gluten is removed from the daily diet.

It sounds so simple but gluten is a potential source of imbalance in the intestinal flora and this disturbance in the complex world of the digestive system can lead to serious health problems.

Paleo CookbookThe PKE Diet Revolution has been designed to restore vibrant health to every part of the body and to make effective weight loss a natural and effortless part of the road to total wellness. Your body knows exactly what it needs to burn the excess fat. Your body knows precisely what it needs to work as beautifully as nature intended. The PKE Diet Revolution optimises every evolutionary advantage that your body possesses to be leaner, fitter, stronger and healthier. It’s only natural. And it feels better than you’d ever imagine.

Start your Paleo track

PaleoDo you sometimes feel that your life could be much healthier, more enjoyable and a lot more fun? It’s hard to enjoy life to the full when your health has been compromised and your energy reserves just seem to have evaporated, leaving you feeling tired and listless. And the way we eat plays a big part in how much energy we can have for enjoyment and health.

We’ve spent most of our existence as a species living in the wilds, living on animal protein, roots, nuts and vegetables and the occasional piece of fruit. No, I’m not suggesting that we should abandon our amazing technology and the comforts of civilisation and go back to living in caves! Might be fun for a weekend but that’s not the mission. Our bodies evolved to function very efficiently on that hunter-gatherer diet and we’re now beginning to understand that many ‘modern’ diseases can be traced to the agricultural revolution and our eventual dependence on grains.

Research points the finger at grains and the inflammatory response that results from our grain-rich diet. We became so dependent on wheat, oats, barley, rice that these grains became our staple foods. The problem is that we haven’t adapted to these basic foods and, when we add the corrosive effects of a sugar-rich diet to the equation, we end up with a formula for disease, low energy, extraordinary weight gain and a host of unpleasant side effects. The answer? It really couldn’t be simpler. Eat the way your body evolved to eat and get ready to be astonished at the results. New energy, improved health, unwanted weight loss, clearer skin, longer life – how much incentive do you need? Get on the Paleo track today. Getting older just got better

image (11)Getting older isn’t what it used to be! As a child, I can remember how rare it was to hear of someone celebrating their 100th birthday. But today in the developed world, if we have access to modern medical facilities, we can expect to live to more than 120. Are you surprised? Well, some scientists are even predicting upper age limits of 150 years. This is an extraordinary development in the course of human evolution. We may be the first members of our species who can seriously look forward to living for a century and a half. But do we really want to live that long?

Fitness – Use it or lose it!

Living beyond 120 years might not be quite so appealing if we end up looking like ET on a bad day with pipes and tubes and machinery keeping us alive. But that’s where the biggest surprise might be because we now know that the human body responds very positively to carefully designed exercise programmes. That’s right. We really can improve our health, our fitness and our wellbeing throughout our entire lives. We just need to keep moving. If we want to enjoy the benefits of longevity, we need to keep active. There are so many stories today of people in their eighties getting involved in running, weight training, yoga and physical exercise routines. The results are often astonishing because exercise seems to be a vital ingredient for health and happiness. The human body can build muscles, stamina and flexibility even in our later years and that means we can be fit and active even past the age of 120! Now that’s a revolution that we need to prepare for. Picture yourself being fit and active and having fun in your 100s! That picture could become a reality.

Exercise is for your entire life

Good diet, exercise and remaining physically and mentally active are key ingredients to enjoying extended longevity. People usually give up their physical exercises because the movements become too painful. Working on flexibility can allow the body to keep moving and if we can move the body without pain, it’s much easier to move onto more productive exercises that promote cardio-vascular strength and stamina. Our mission is to help you enjoy the benefits of a fit and healthy body today and for the rest of what could be a very long life!

Managing your Mid Life Health

If you are aged between 30 and 70 this is the new era and longest ever timeline for contemporary mid life issues…..stress,expected lifestyle and career obligations means that we experience mid life issues long before the old fashioned mid life age of 45!…..

image (10)

do you suffer from at least five of these issues?

  1. immune system dysfunction
  2. sleep difficulties
  3. anxiety
  4. depression
  5. mood swings
  6. waist expansion
  7. weight gain/severe loss
  8. body shape changes
  9. serious illness…cancer, cardio vascular disease etc
  10. thinning or thickening hair in the wrong places
  11. palipitations
  12. dizzyness
  13. hot flashes
  14. fatigue
  15. forgetfulness
  16. fat weight gain and
  17. water weight gain
  18. peri/actual/post menopause symptoms
  19. food/alcohol cravings and dependencies
  20. digestive issues (nausea,constipation,bloating,flatulence,diarrea,digestive tract disease,IBS)
  21. recurrent pain in the back, neck, shoulder, breast, head.throat, joints, liver, gallbladder
  22. general irritability
  23. frequent urination and discomfort,
  24. genital and gynaecological infection and discomfort,

Are there really techniques to not only manage but overcome many of these uncomfortable and quality of life diminishing issues? YES THERE ARE!….you may only be in your mid thirties….or you may have several of these issues which you regard as normal problems coming with a maturing age….but it is just so helpful to have the knowledge, understanding and solutions to outsmart your midlife issues!

Throughout the Western World there is a universal cry for help from the mid life age range……people from all walks of life…..levels of success, intelligence and social status are not an influence and sometimes serve to increase our midlife issues!

For example each and every one of us have 30 billion fat cells whether we like it or not!…….and these fat cells go through a transition at each hormonal event in our lives….puberty, pregnancy, menstrual issues, hormonal diseases, life stress,pre/peri/during/post menopause……and of course …..ability or inability to mobilise our bodies. Even men are affected by some but not all of these issues…of course.

Beran new book aims to deal with all these issues so check back soon for more info

Detoxification

image (8)Your body’s ability to process rubbish, including toxic rubbish, is a pervasive factor in your ability to lose weight and reach a healthy goal weight. Struggling with this issue activates backup strategies for dealing with toxic overload, which include expanding the number of fat cells and stuffing them with toxins as well as fat. This is likely done to get the toxic rubbish out of your circulation and away from key organs. It causes easy weight gain and complicates weight loss because your body does not easily give up the toxic fat it has stored.

In many ways, our polluted world is a true test of genetic survival of the fittest. The number of toxic chemicals now threatens our overall health as a species in so many ways. These chemicals contribute to weight gain in various ways, including hormone and metabolic disruption….i.e. disturbances that down regulates your metabolism, damage to and accumulation in your white adipose tissue, and increased risk for poisoning during weight loss. It is absolutely vital that you understand this subject.

Our Toxic World is a Major Metabolic Problem

Toxic residue of bacterial imbalance within the digestive tract, stimulates the formation of new fat cells and promotes weight gain. There are other internally generated toxins along with plenty of “normal” rubbish like inflammatory debris and lactic acid. Additionally, pervasive environmental toxins affect everyone to some degree and can cause metabolic malfunctions as well as increase the risk for cancer. Many of these environmental toxins are fat soluble, which means they readily accumulate in white adipose tissue.

Some of these toxic compounds have been banned, but the damage has already been done as they continue to bioaccumulate in the food chain and pose long-term challenges to the farming soils This is a key metabolic problem for those who are overweight.

Toxins Pose a Major Challenge to Weight Loss

There are a variety of reasons toxins pose a major challenge to weight loss. A person who has too many toxins to process will make new fat cells and store those toxins along with fat in them. This is first a form of self-defence against being poisoned, and second, a strategy to get toxins out of the circulation and away from major organs. This means that some people will not be able to lose any weight at all, regardless of how little they eat, until the acute nature of their plumbing problems are addressed.

It is very clear that these toxins are released back into the circulation during weight loss. This data means that your plumbing and detoxification systems must be in good working condition for healthy weight loss – or possibly even to engage weight loss.

Toxins make you feel irritable. Many people report feeling “poisoned” at a certain point in their weight loss process. Such people will always feel better when they eat a lot of food, as the toxins are pulled out of their blood and placed back in fat – along with plenty of fat. With a little effort, most people can readily lose weight they have most recently gained. After that, people reach what I like to call it the “toxic plateau.”

This means that detoxification strategies may need to be adjusted if weight loss slows too much or stops. In my clinical experience, the difficult-to-lose kilos are typically toxic fat. Strategies to improve detoxification often enable weight loss to proceed. While overweight people who struggle to lose weight with a good diet and exercise have this problem to some degree, those who are the most overweight experience this issue to a greater degree.

Individuals with chemical sensitivity issues are extremely challenged. Virtually all individuals with chemical sensitivity are hyper-inflamed, have lost physical strength and fitness, and are either overweight or underweight. Such individuals must optimize their vitamin D levels—keeping them in the upper 2/3 of normal range—while using anti-inflammatory nutrients like quercetin and grape seed extract to help lower the amount of chemical reactions that will otherwise derail their progress.

Should I be taking Vitamins? by Beran Parry

image (4)

Do they help or hinder our health needs? The answers are certainly surprising because the subject serves to polarise opinion right across the board. I often meet people who firmly believe that vitamin or mineral supplements are completely unnecessary and could even be harmful to our health. And I know many individuals who swear by their daily supplement intake and couldn’t imagine life without their morning cocktail of life-enhancing little helpers.

The truth may lie somewhere between these two opposing views. We know that much of our food has been so thoroughly processed that much of the original goodness has been removed during the manufacturing, preserving and packaging processes. Comparative studies reveal that our food today contains around sixty percent fewer essential nutrients than it did around fifty years ago. Additives, colouring agents, preservatives, artificial flavours and taste enhancers, as well as the increasing use of sugars in many foodstuffs, degrade the quality of our food and reduce the nutritive quality of our diet. So we can make a case for replacing the missing nutrients by adding supplements to our daily diet. The problem is perhaps more a question of which supplements we might need and how much is appropriate. Frankly, my dear, we really are all different from one another. What might be appropriate for one individual could be highly unsuitable for another. And we need to be careful about combining different elements to ensure we don’t produce any unpleasant side effects.

There is an enormous amount of information on the Internet. But the volume of data does not always guarantee the quality of the content. And a little knowledge, as I’m sure you will agree, is most surely a dangerous thing. We know for example that the vast majority of Northern Europeans are lacking in Vitamin D. My own GP claims that some ninety percent of blood tests conducted in his surgery reveal a shortage of this important vitamin. Some areas of the world are naturally deficient in essential trace elements. Our individual body types sometimes reveal an inherited inability to process or synthesise certain vitamins and minerals. Perhaps these are good cases for supplements. But should supplements be freely available to the public at large?
I suspect that supplements can make a valuable contribution to an individual’s health and wellbeing. But we need an important caveat to this statement.

The individual would always benefit enormously by consulting a qualified nutritionist, an experienced and professional expert, who could evaluate whether supplements are even appropriate for that individual’s particular needs. Indiscriminate consumption of vitamins and minerals needs to be tempered by professional analysis and carefully measured advice. Unqualified advice and ‘expertise’ gleaned from a brief perusal of the Internet is inadequate at best, potentially dangerous at worst.

Yet I was surprised by a call in recent years for supplements to be banned in Europe on the grounds that they could be dangerous. Surprised because we live in a society that allows for the unlimited sale and consumption of alcohol and tobacco. It struck me as ironic that we could be concerned about vitamins and minerals when we’re completely free to smoke and drink ourselves to death. Having access to high quality vitamins and minerals must be a positive enhancement to our health needs – provided that the appropriate advice has been sought and any necessary supplements have been recommended by a professional. And if they contribute to our daily health, wellbeing and longevity, they must inevitably be a force for good.
