Best Detox Ever 5 days minus 5 pounds

IMG_7645The festive season is a period when we tend to over-indulge – just a little bit! – and put aside the rules and conventions of healthy eating. It’s just a short lapse, a week or so off the wagon, a forgivable respite from the rigours of following a healthy routine. But, despite the smiles on our faces and the alcohol-fuelled glow in our cheeks, our bodies can easily suffer from this lapse of common sense and that’s when we easily pile on the pounds and consume a cocktail of harmful toxins that end up in our over-loaded digestive IMG_7647systems. So, we’re going to need some help to clean up the mess. It isn’t just those pesky Christmas tree needles that cover the floor, the spilled food and drink, the stains on the carpet and the pile of dirty dishes that need our attention. Our bodies need to be scrubbed and cleansed too and we’re talking about scrubbing and cleansing on the inside. And how do we do that? Easy. You can use the amazing five-day detox cleanse that will put a serious dent in the problem and get you back on the right track to health and wellbeing in under a week.

The method focuses onIMG_7648 using herbs and smart nutrition to take the load off your strained digestive organs and flush the harmful material out of your body. It’s painless. It’s easy. Enjoy the most glorious array of dishes and still lose excess weight – This Holiday!

time-management-holidayChristmas is one of the major times of the year to celebrate the blessings of being together with family and loved ones and it’s a traditional period when we throw caution to the wind and feast ourselves to bursting point. It might also be interesting to remember that in pagan times, the great mid-Winter feast that we now celebrate as Christmas marked a time when people would break out their carefully-hoarded food supplies and note the passing of the shortest day of the year with feasting and merriment, a hint of the better times to come when Spring re-appeared and sowing and planting could begin again. It’s interesting to bear in mind that during those far-off days, Winter meant a period of shortages when people often starved. An opportunity to feast would be extremely welcome, a perfect moment to boost the calorie intake and chase away the haunting shadows of famine. This tradition lives on in the twenty-first century despite the fact that famine in the developed nations is very much a thing of the past. We still consider the festive season as a a perfect time to load the dining table with piles of delicious food and eat and drink ourselves into a gluttonous stupor. It’s a deeply-embedded tradition and a familiar hallmark of the Christmas holidays.

Today we face an unexpectedly different problem, a challenge that our ancestors would’ve welcomed with open arms: we have far too much to eat. Very few people in the developed nations have any real understanding of what it’s like to go hungry yet we still react to the festive season with a knee-jerk urge to eat on a massive scale. Yet the problem might not be a question of how much we eat but rather a question of what we eat. The fact is that we can cover (1)feast like a mythological Viking in Valhalla and still stay in great shape. Seasonal Health Blog

Cure-HangoverHave you ever woken up with a hangover? OK. Maybe more than once? Well, if it’s a regular occurrence, it might be time to follow the example of a former colleague who quit drinking because he could no longer face the ordeal of waking up feeling that he must have died in the night and been embalmed in preserving alcohol! And the holiday season provides the perfect excuse to enjoy the fruits of the grape and the grain with a little more enthusiasm than usual. But we need to reflect for a moment on the potential damage we’re doing to our bodies during the celebrations. You know that your body can’t handle an excess of alcohol, don’t you? Of course you do! That’s what that awful hangover is all about: your body has been poisoned. So the absolute best way to avoid a hangover is to cut down on your alcohol consumption. It puts a huge strain on your body and getting intoxicated is rarely a pleasant experience either for you or for your companions. Being drunk means that you’re effectively out of control and humans don’t function very well when they’re intoxicated. That’s just a fact. So feel free to enjoy a glass or two of seasonal cheer and then switch to soft drinks. Your body will appreciate the reduction in stress and you’re more likely to wake up with the certainty that you had a great time, hangover-free, and not needing to apologise to anyone for your behaviour! You might be surprised to know how long it can take for your body to process all the alcohol you consume. It can take days! So, if you happen to over-indulge on one occasion, it would be extremely helpful if you avoid any more booze until your body has fully recovered.

coverOne of the answers to this kind of unhelpful over-indulgence is to set up a de-tox diet that will speed up the process of flushing the garbage and harmful elements out of your system. This can involve eating lots fresh, green, leafy vegetables and replacing any lost Vitamins and minerals that might have been depleted during the celebrations. Drinking plenty of pure, fresh water can make a very useful contribution to the de-tox programme too. So can moderate exercise. The idea is to help the body to recover and regain its optimal functioning as smoothly and quickly as possible. Despite the undpubted usefulness of a de-tox diet, the best answer always lies in prevention rather than cure. Happy holidays and cheers!

STEVIA the Best Sugar Substitute

images (2)One of the frequent areas of controversy that I come across when talking about healthy eating is the subject of sugar. There are still plenty of people who claim that sugar is not harmful to the human metabolism and that it can still be safely consumed, perhaps in moderation, without any adverse physical health risks. Some people express themselves with the kind of certainty that is completely blind to the years of painstaking and thorough research that condemns sugar as a toxic and addictive substance, however sweetly seductive the advertising might be that promotes ‘healthy’ forms of sugar. Perhaps it’s not surprising that the world is experiencing an explosion in obesity rates and an alarming increase in Type 2 diabetes. Obesity is widely regarded as a strong risk factor for contracting diabetes. The logical response to these problems is to reduce sugar consumption to a minimum. And that also means is that we need to reduce our consumption of fruits, especially fruit juices, honey and carbohydrates. The only sweetening agent that seems to have escaped the condemnation of research scientists is the naturally occurring Stevia plant which is seen more and more as a healthy and zero calorie alternative to all the processed sugars and artificial sweeteners that are used so abundantly in the processed food industry. The more sugar you consume, the more problems your body will develop and we can now see a disturbing increase in the number of children who are either pre-diabetic or who experiencing the fully developed version of the disease. A change in diet and a light exercise programme can work wonders even for those who have already been diagnosed with the Type 2 diabetes that accounts for some 95% of sufferers.

stevia-sugar-substituteAs a species, humans have not adapted successfully to the amount of sugar that typically makes up the western diet. Cut down or cut it out and prepare to be amazed at the changes you’ll see in your body when you take sugar out of your daily dietary equation. It’s known as sweet, white and deadly for a good reason.
